Sumi Jo, soprano
Emmanuel Villaume, conductor
Sumi Jo, a world-known South Korean soprano, will be a star of the PKF – Prague Philharmonia's special December concert. Prague will listen to a programme of two different period styles connected to the capital of Austria, Vienna. Zerbinetta´s aria from Ariadne auf Naxos (Ariadne on Naxos) by Richard Strauss (1864-1949) describing her effort to distract Ariadne's sadness over a betrayal of Prince Theseus of Athens is considered fiercely difficult yet dazzling piece of coloratura singing of the 20th century. The arduous thirteen minute part reflects typical characteristics of Strauss's style which combine dramatic expression with light coloraturas attacking magical high "e"!
The second part of the concert will be dedicated to Wolfang Amadeus Mozart whose compositions have found its valuable place in a repertoire of all world coloratura sopranos. Constanze's aria „Martern aller Arten“ from Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) will conclude the unique soprano concert performed by Sumi Jo and the PKF – Prague Philharmonia.
Sumi Jo is the highest-selling classical singer and Grammy Award-winning soprano, among others for the recording of Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten (The Woman without a Shadow) conducted by Sir Georg Solti (DECCA). Last year she obtained a nomination for ‘Best Original Song for the 2016 Academy Awards Oscar’ and the Golden Globe Award. The song named ‘Simple Song #3‘ was in Paolo Sorrentino's Youth.
