25th anniversary season

The Czech Nonet

The Czech Nonet, which was formed back in 1924, is one of the oldest chamber ensembles in the world. Thanks to its special combination of instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass and woodwind quintet) it has a wide repertoire consisting of music from the Baroque to composers from the 20th and 21st centuries, who were often directly inspired by the playing of this exceptional ensemble (Bohuslav Martinů, Sergei Prokofiev, Witold Lutosławski). The Czech Nonet has played at some of the most prestigious international music festivals (Salzburg Festival, La Folle Journee, Prague Spring). In addition to Europe, their tours have taken them to the USA, South America, Africa and Japan. The Czech Nonet has won numerous awards for its extensive recordings (Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 du Répertoire). The ensemble has recorded music by Brahms, Mozart, Roussel, Dvořák and others for the Praga Digital label.
