PKF — Prague Philharmonia on the former army training ground in the Barracks at Karlín!
On the occasion of celebrating the second anniversary of the opening of the cultural center at the Karlín Barracks, we will present for your enjoyment six unique open-air concerts for a total of 3,600 people, which will take place in a unique cultural monument. Forty members of the PKF — Prague Philharmonia will perform on stage under the leadership of twenty-eight-year-old Czech conductor Jiří Rožeň. The program will feature famous compositions by Mozart, Beethoven and Martinů.
Karlín Barracks — a unique place in the center of Prague
The Cultural and Social Center of the Karlín Barracks opened a unique public space in the former barracks in June 2017. During the two years of the complex, they opened a café in a former swimming pool, a bar in the garage which had been used for military vehicles, a concert hall, a cinema and a former Appellplatz turned into a pleasant car-free square with several playgrounds and even a summer cinema. With a help of the PKF — Prague Philharmonia, Kasárna decided to celebrate its two-year existence with a grandiose series of six open-air concerts for a forty-member orchestra on the former military training ground, which will take place from 19 to 23 June 2019. “Since the beginning, we have been trying to open the Barracks to the general public, parents with children, young people and seniors. Exactly in this spirit is this project - we want to transfer classical music from concert halls to public spaces and make it accessible to the widest possible audience in an unusual environment, which is also the result of lower prices, among others favoring children, seniors and students,” says Matěj Velek, Director of Kasárna Karlín.
