The Prague Philharmonic Choir is set to open its 89th season with a concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Czech Radio. The collaboration between these two institutions dates back to their inception and continues to this day.

Conducted by German maestro Dirk Kaftan, the performance will feature the PKF – Prague Philharmonia orchestra and the Children's Choir of Czech Radio, led by choir director Věra Hrdinková. They will present works by Jan Campanus Vodňanský and Josef Mysliveček.

The soloist for the evening is violinist Jan Mráček, who in 2011 became the youngest soloist to ever perform with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since then, he has remained a regular guest during the radio orchestra's concert seasons.

Lucie Hilscherová (alto), Aleš Briscein (tenor), Jiří Brückler (baritone), and Štefan Kocán (bass) will also lend their talents to the event.

The Prague Philharmonic Choir will showcase Felix Mendelssohn's rarely performed ballad, "First Walpurgis Night". Based on a ballad by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, the piece was last performed by the choir in 2003 in Besançon, France, and has not been heard in Prague since 1991.
